Introduction
Yesterday, my company announced the availability of Microsoft Copilot licenses. These licenses will be only available to one-third of all employees on a first-come, first-served basis and will be limited to three months. The purpose of this initiative is to familiarize consultants like myself with this new tool and enable us to assist customers in implementing and utilizing it more efficiently. I promptly ordered one of the licenses. After ordering the license for Microsoft 365 Copilot, I questioned whether I truly needed it and how it could benefit my daily practices. I plan to document my journey of discovering the tool in a blog series. Additionally I will maintain a list of use cases I discover.
How do I use M365 Copilot?
I have watched several webcasts on the functionality of Microsoft 365 Copilot and listened to podcasts about real-life project experiences. However, I have received a notification that the license has been assigned to my user, and I am unsure how to use it. My initial requirement was to summarize the notes I took during a meeting in OneNote. During the meeting, an issue that a customer is currently facing was discussed. I would like to post my situation on the company’s internal community to request assistance. Perhaps someone within the company has experience with a similar situation. However, I was unable to locate the Copilot icon and did not immediately find adequate documentation to begin. Due to time constraints, I decided to summarize the text myself. While summarizing, I realized that it couldn’t be right for all my apps to have the Copilot functionality enabled and ready to use just 30 minutes after license assignment. Perhaps after a reboot tomorrow, I will be able to discover the functionalities…
Where to start with?
Before I get into specific use cases, I will first read the documentation:
Microsoft Copilot for Microsoft 365 overview | Microsoft Learn
At the time of writing this article, Microsoft has provided comprehensive documentation. As a consultant, it is essential to have a deep understanding of the tool’s architecture and to be able to address customer concerns regarding data privacy and security.
I will try to discover possible use cases for my daily work and create a list of them on this blog, which I will link here.
Conclusion
Every tool can only be helpful if you know how to use it. The usage of Copilot, which is integrated into different areas of the Microsoft 365 suite, may feel overwhelming at first.
